Gaétan de Rassenfosse, Associate Professor at EPFL and Chair of Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy, will be the keynote speaker at the 2025 Global TechMining (GTM) Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

GTM is the flagship event for scholars and practitioners at the intersection of data science, innovation studies, and science policy. Known for its applied focus and vibrant mix of academic, government, and industry participants, the conference showcases the latest advances in text mining, bibliometrics, and machine learning applied to science and technology analysis.

In his keynote, Professor de Rassenfosse will present new research on measuring invention commercialization—an enduring challenge for policymakers and researchers alike. The work proposes a scalable, web-based method to trace the market adoption of patented inventions. Using the approach to evaluate the outcomes of the U.S. Department of Defense's SBIR program, the study sheds light on the real-world impact of government-funded research.

His presentation will speak directly to the GTM community’s interest in methodological innovation, actionable indicators, and the responsible use of big data to inform innovation policy. It also reinforces EPFL’s commitment to developing cutting-edge tools for evaluating science and technology outcomes.
